But as long as someone can hold the gas pedal down and shift relatively quickly, they should be able to accelerate at very near their car's potential peak over a specified distance (1320'), so they should be able to reach a trap speed that they can repeat over and over again, regardless of whether they screw up on a launch or have their suspension out of spec. If the only two data you can take out of a 1/4 mile run are ET and trap speed, the trap speed is a much more likely indicator of power than ET is, with ET being innacurate for the reasons you stated. And while I wouldn't argue that it's spot on accurate, it seems to be an accurate enough indicator of an underperforming/dangerously-overperforming engine, and hell it might be more accurate than some of the dynos we see floating around here =/
